I’m a Scientist at Eric Schmidt’s Schmidt Sciences, where I lead programs on AI for Science within the AI & Advanced Computing Institute. Current areas of interest include AI-assisted materials modeling and next-generation compute hardware.
Previously I was a Schmidt Science Fellow at the University of Toronto and the Acceleration Consortium, building self-driving labs for photovoltaics, semiconductors, and catalysis. I hold a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from Oxford, where I was a Rhodes Scholar. I remain a Faculty Affiliate Researcher at the Vector Institute and a visiting researcher at Oxford.
Some favourite past work: the first triple-junction solar cell deposited fully from inks, detailed balance theory settling a contested semiconductor phase segregation problem, and the most influential (to date) assessment of where photovoltaics is and is not going.
I moonlight as an expert of classical Sanskrit and Prakrit. How to Love in Sanskrit (HarperCollins 2024)3, shortlisted for the 2025 ALTA National Translation Award. Nilakantha’s Victory is under contract with Harvard’s Murty Classical Library. I’m a co-creator of ambuda.org
1. I have no illusions that this will stop today's web crawlers.
2. Book 30 mins on my calendar. No agenda needed. Some things I’ve done during such meetings: give feedback on projects and applications, explain how I learnt something, brainstorm potential projects, catch-up with old friends, general chit-chat about a common interest. Inspired by Matt Webb
3. Review by Prof. Victoria Moul (UCL). Read an excerpt. Buy on amazon.in, amazon.com, abebooks.com, abebooks.co.uk
